Stephen Curry visited the region and he has shared his top secrets when visiting the Far North!
Check it out!
We are absolutely delighted to be named as one of the Best Cultural Experiences in Australia for visitors to Port Douglas! Thanks Experience Oz + NZ - looking forward to having many more guests visit our unique Aboriginal Cultural Dining Experience in the Rainforest! https://www.experienceoz.com.au/…/best-cultural-experiences…
Go Team Flames!
A stunning wedding for Jess and Grant recently with super elegant long tables adorned with champagne silk and candles highlighted by gorgeous floral table centre pieces by www.floraledge.com.au photography by www.matthewevansphotography.com.au music by www.tonygeorgeentertainment.com.au and all pulled together by the talented Bec at www.dragonflyweddingsandevents.com.au There's nothing like a rainforest ballroom for a wedding!
We've done some pretty epic events in the rainforest for our corporate clients but this year has seen some definite crackers! Recently we had the pleasure of having a gala awards dinner enjoy the entertainment of Australian icon Ian Moss! And boy was it LOUD!
Super duper humbled to be captioned 'legendary' in the latest issue of mice.net as part of a piece highlighting business events in Port Douglas. Thanks Brad and the team for a great TNQ article featuring Port Douglas suppliers including Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, the Reef Marina, Business Events Port Douglas, Silky Oaks Lodge, Thala Beach Nature Reserve, Pullman Sea Temple Port Douglas, QT Port Douglas, Quicksilver Cruises and Flames!
An absolutely stunning local wedding for gorgeous couple Mark and Jadana last week! Such an amazing couple made Matthew Evans's from www.matthewevansphotography.com.au very easy indeed!
The night finished with a very bright giant sparkler tunnel as the newlyweds headed off to honeymoon in the wilds of Africa! Congratulations guys!
Whew! After our annual hiatus from January to April, we are back up and running for the 2017 season! Always a bonus to start the season with a new dessert .... YUM! Toasted coconut panna cotta with caramelised pineapple served with wattle seed gelato atop chocolate soil ... I think I just drooled on my desk ...
Our GM was out and about again recently, this time in Brisbane with General Manager Beth Anderson of NQ Exhibitions. Their task - convince buyers at the Convene Q trade show that Port Douglas was the ultimate Business Events destination! Here is a picture of their booth set up - cool huh? The flooring came in 12 pieces which had to be carefully stuck to the carpet. We are sure Nat looked pretty funny crawling around on the floor making sure there were no bubbles in it! Just like contacting a giant book really!
Who knew colour could potentially affect the outcome of your evening? Colour is known to play an
interesting role in our lives and research suggests colour influences our responses. Much of what
we do at Flames of the Forest has been influenced by our research into colour.
Have you ever been curious as to why a smiley face is yellow? The colour yellow inspires a happy
mood as it assists in the release of Serotonin to the brain. So combined with red, which is
invigorating and orange which is a mix of happiness and invigoration – everyone is smiling during pre
dinner drinks! Coupled with the natural green of the forest which is known to be a soothing colour
which alleviates stress, the night is off to a good start!
Moving from pre dinner drinks, we flood guests with blue light on arrival into the black silk lined
marquee. Black signifies power, creativity and authority and is heavily associated with style. By
highlighting the marquee with blue chandeliers which have a soothing effect on the mind, we switch
our guest’s minds into creative mode by calming them and hooking into their intelligence!
Switching back to a golden orange light for dinner, we shift guests back to the happiness of yellow
and the invigoration of red before taking it up a notch for dessert and flooding the marquee in
purple light. This is the clincher – purple symbolises royalty, luxury and sophistication. So after a
night of overwhelming happiness mixed with tranquillity, a feeling of style and invigoration, we leave
our guests with the empowering feeling of sophisticated luxury.
So it’s not just about the venue or the food. A truly special evening every aspect of the night
into consideration – even the colour! So next time you are at a dinner, have a look at your colour
A huge shout out and thank you to Matthew Evans from Matthew Evans Photography who shot some fabulous new photos of Flames last weekend whilst dining with his gorgeous wife Emma! I think you will agree the venue looks sublime! Check out more of Matthew's work online, perhaps you are looking for a wedding photographer?! www.matthewevansphotography.com.au
Another Australian Tourism Exchange done and dusted! ATE is the largest trade event in Australia and exhausts our GM for a least two weeks! 117 x 15 minute appointments telling media, international travel professionals and our industry all about what we have to offer in the rainforest of Tropical North Queensland! This was a great shot of some of the other operators who attended the show!
Social media be gone - we want engagement! Have you ever stood on stage, making a speech or giving out awards and all you can see are bowed heads and the lightning movement of fingers across a screen? How annoying is it? Well, guess what? That simply will not happen at Flames of the Forest, as on top of having no noise restrictions or curfews, we don't have any mobile service either! So there will be no instagramming, facebooking, tweeting, pinteresting or scouring linked in - all your guests will be fully engaged with the moment - there might even be some new and groovy conversation!
More brides to be! So the three musketeers from Port Douglas including Nat from Flames of the Forest, Bec from Dragonfly Weddings & Events and Peta from QT Resort Port Douglas travelled to Melbourne for the 100th Melbourne Bridal Expo. Over 7000 people through the door and 3000 brides to be - a great turnout to promote Port Douglas as THE place for a destination wedding!
Soooo ... Valentine's Day is fast on approach and it is also the day for many a marriage proposal! So in the tradition of all things wedding, our GM travelled to Townsville recently with a couple of other wedding suppliers from our region to promote how awesome Port Douglas is for a destination wedding! She will be heading off to Melbourne this month again with Bec from Dragonfly Weddings & Events and Peta from QT Resort Port Douglas to man the booth at the 100th Melbourne Bridal Expo held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre on Sunday, 17th January 2016. Go Team PD!
The team at Flames of the Forest are saddened by the news of the passing of an old friend, mentor and complete legend of the Australian events industry, David Grant.
He was a tirelessly inventive, funny and brilliant man who inspired us all, yet was generous with his advice and time. He has gone too early, leaving a legion of memories and will be much missed.
What a CRAZY couple of months! The GM ran away to the UK for a month leaving everyone to fend for themselves - but like the fabulous staff they are, they pulled it off without a hitch! Private functions with dancing, dancing and more dancing, awards, weddings and guests learning all about Indigenous culture abounded and we rolled through a huge amount of glorious food! Now it's time to chill a bit and send our GM out on the road to drum up lots of business for next year ... but not before lunch ....
What an awesome testimonial for one of our favourite musicians Mr Tony George! Tony is awesome for corporate dinners, weddings, parties ... well anything really - a superstar!
" WOW – What an amazing night we had with Tony George and the Band. After many years of organising events with live music, I have never seen the entire crowd up on the dance floor by the third song of the night. Thank you Tony for making our night at Flames of the Forest truly memorable. It was entertaining, engaging and full throttle from start to finish. Every one of the guests raved about you and the band and in particular the way you engaged the audience and had everyone on their feet. Let's do it again sometime…..! Cheers from Danny and all crew at Smile Council Orthodontics – Melbourne."
Congratulations to Soraya and Raymond on your wedding day! A gorgeous candle light ceremony and rocking reception - we hope it will live in your memory forever!
Our GM thought it about time to take her kids out to the Aboriginal Cultural Experience recently. Although the girls have grown up in the rainforest (yes, our GM has been here that long!) they had never actually experienced the dinner. So at ages 11 and 9 they finally had the chance to listen to the beautiful ancient history of our indigenous people. And the girls? They loved it!
Well done Team Flames!
Weddings are a truly personal experience and this gorgeous couple really stamped their own personality on their wedding! This is Belinda and Jamie - they wanted to do something a little bit different with their guests on the night and have a little bit of North Queensland fun! Cane Toad Racing is a northern classic and their guests absolutely loved it. Here is a photo of Belinda and Jamie trying to move that pesky toad!
Today being wacky Wednesday we had a look through our archives and found this little beauty - it is the original promotional photo for the first Flames of hte Forest brochure! It was actually taken in the creek by one of the Flames staff which is pretty impressive! The beautiful candelabra on the right of the image now sits in the pre dinner drinks area for everyone to see!
If you are looking for some extra help planning your wedding - this is the lady you need to speak to on left! Bec McLean from Dragonfly Weddings & Events is an independent wedding planner based in Port Douglas. Our GM (on the right) is pictured with Bec at a recent networking function. You can contact Bec through her website www.dragonflyweddings.com.au!
This is Felix - from the Pyrotechnique Fire Theatre! His team just finished a series of six performances for six North American incentive groups who travelled to Flames of the Forest as part of their Australian trip. We use him quite a lot for private dinners and even wedding receptions! He is not only incredibly talented, but a super nice guy too!
On the weekend our General Manager had the pleasure of hosting four lovely ladies from the Hawaiian Airlines team. They were joined by Leigh from Tourism & Events Queensland who represents our wonderful sunny state in North America.
A fun time was had by all, with our resident guitarist Stu, playing some great American tunes!
A hui hou! (Until we meet again!)
Following a temporary closure for its annual refurbishment, Flames of the Forest re-opens this week with a quirky addition – Australia’s first marble off site bathrooms!
Flames’ General Manager Natalie Johnson commented, “No one ever said taking an event off site had to be uncomfortable, so in true Flames style we have gone one step further and created what we think are Australia’s ultimate off site bathrooms!”
Featuring local Chillagoe Gold Drop marble vanities and hand crafted, custom New Guinea Rosewood cupboards, guests will be pleasantly surprised.
“The boys even went as far as to install silver cisterns and hand towel racks to match the silver stalls. I’ve certainly never seen anything so stunning in the middle of the rainforest!” Natalie laughed.
The 2015 refurbishment has also included the updating of decorative lighting, crystal curtaining and a new pre dinner drinks bar.
Happy New Year! As another year whizzes past we get ready to close the venue for 12 weeks for our annual refurbishment program! Let's just say it involves Chillagoe marble - fancy! So whilst we can't post anything on line as yet as we won't be starting until Monday, here is a beautiful shot from Alison George at Catseye Productions!
What a beautiful wedding party! Congratulations to Danielle and Dave on their candle lit ceremony followed by beautiful reception. We wish you a wonderful life together. Photo credit goes to Benn Brown from Blue Sky Photography!
The General Manager was hard at work recently promoting Flames of the Forest to conference and incentive organisers at the annual Sell TNQ trade show in Cairns. This was her 9th show in a row and she still loves it!
Sometimes brides like to bring to their reception tables a little bit of themselves. For this wedding we provided beautiful mirrors down the centre of the table together with some floating candles and the bride delivered some lovely glass vases filled with rainforest plants and flowers! Get creative we say! Photo credit - Ali at Catseye Productions.
Weddings, weddings, weddings ... tis the season to be wed! October was crazy with weddings! This one we just go of our Executive Chef Dave on the love seat at Flames - MWAH! Photo credit - Ali at Catseye Productions.
Big congratulations go to our Executive Chef David on his wedding day last week! David and his partner Narelle were married at the beautiful St. Mary's by the Sea Chapel over looking the ocean in Port Douglas. The reception was held ... guess where? Yes! Flames of the Forest! The General Manager produced the table decorations with mirrored overlays, glass jars and floating candles which complemented Narelle's vases of native plants. The Event Manager and our staff donated their time to set up and one of the wait staff even dressed as a fairy for the night! Music was provided by the ever talented Tony George and the guests all danced the night away. All in all it was a beautiful evening and one I am sure Dave and Narelle will never forget! Credit where credit is due! Flames would like to say a HUGE thank you to those WONDERFUL photographers who have shot such AMAZING photos that we have used on our website. Thank you Colyn from Lovegreen Photography, Ben from Sass Studios, Kirsty Lea from Kirsty Lea Photography, Ali from Catseye Productions, Martine from Martine Cotton Photography, Shaun from Port Douglas Photography, Ben from Blue Sky Photography and Rob from Visibility Video - you have made our site look so beautiful!
Well this was a great email to open this morning! We have been awarded by Experience Oz a spot in the Top 10 Things To Do in Port Douglas for 2014! You can check out other wonderful things in our region by having a look at their website http://www.experienceoz.com.au/top-10-things-to-do-port-douglas
What do you do when the colour of the fairy light bulbs are just not quite right for what you envision? Paint them of course! When Flames wanted to add a fairy light pre dinner drinks entrance overhead, the owner just wasn't happy with the colour of the bulbs. So she took them home and hand painted all of them with a mixture of three different colours to get the exact look she was after. We guess the old saying "If you want something done properly, do it yourself" is bang on in the case of coloured fairy lights! Photo credit - Lovegreen Photography.
